Holocaust Organizations, Scholars and Educators Sound Alarm on Surge in Hate Crimes

Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education is among 90 institutions who are calling on lawmakers to condemn white nationalist groups and ask citizens to be vigilant. Among the 71 individuals who have signed the statement are two Portlanders – Sonia Marie Leikam, Holocaust educator and anti-genocide activist; and Professor Steven Wasserstrom, Department of Judaic Studies at Reed College. "Every Minute Counts" -- The Legacy of Katherine Joseph

Photography was a vibrant and exciting part of her life. Though she ended her career for marriage and motherhood, her work demonstrates an assertive and enterprising personality. She was a determined professional in a field that few women entered. She stood near such luminaries as President Franklin Roosevelt, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, and Frank Sinatra, but also spent considerable time in factories where members of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union (ILGWU) worked. It’s official—OJMCHE has a new home!

On Friday, August 25th Board Chair Elaine Coughlin signed documents that officially closed the sale of 724 NW Davis to OJMCHE. Now that the museum has the keys, work is beginning in earnest on the re-imagining of the space, with the help of Deca Architects. Click to continue »
