Collecting Forward

The Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education (OJMCHE) announces the Collecting Forward project, a new initiative to collect and showcase work by contemporary Jewish artists. In pursuit of that goal, the museum is establishing a database specifically for artists who identify as Jewish and have strong connections to Oregon.

There are three ways in which individuals can become a part of this project.

To support acquisitions guided by the database, the museum has created a new fund earmarked for art by contemporary Oregon Jewish artists. The current focus is on purchasing works on paper; in the future, the range will expand to include three-dimensional works, video, and other mediums. The plan is to create an always fresh, vibrant collection that will encourage a broad spectrum of community members to engage with the museum and participate in ongoing dialogues on art.

Donate a Work of Art

Collectors are encouraged to offer to the collection artworks by contemporary Jewish artists that they may already hold. These will then be reviewed by the Collections Committee for consideration.

If you are a Jewish artist with a connection to Oregon, or know someone you think we should know about, please complete this form and help build the database.

The list is open to any artist who: (1) self-identifies as Jewish, (2) who has a strong connection to Oregon, and (3) who maintains a creative practice in the visual arts. Feel free to submit your own name or someone else’s, as long as the artist fits all three of the above criteria.
