Dwell Together in Unity

February 5-April 30, 2021

Dwell Together in Unity is the Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education’s 2021 PDX Winter Lights window exhibition. Designed by Benjamin Ariff, Straw to Gold Studio the museum’s six front windows on NW Davis Street become an exploration of the traditional Jewish song Hinei Ma Tov which is sung at the Shabbat meal. From the song the phrase Dwell Together in Unity is spelled out in warm-colored LED lights across the windows, the same phrase in Hebrew Shevet Achim Gam Yachad is displayed beneath. During these unprecedented times of turmoil, the exhibition is envisioned as a beacon of hope. In addition to the window exhibition, there is a sound component with an outdoor speaker that plays Hine Ma Tov. Construction and installation of the project is by BigFoot Northwest. Dwell Together in Unity can be safely viewed from the sidewalk on NW Davis Street and visitors are asked to wear a mask and practice social distancing.

The Portland Winter Light Festival (PDXWLF) is an annual event of the Willamette Light Brigade, a non-profit arts organization. PDXWLF is presented to guests for free, and builds community by bringing art and technology to inclusive audiences while invigorating Portland in the winter. In 2021, this experience will take a brand-new form as a series of outdoor art installations throughout the city. The Portland Winter Light (non)Festival takes place on February 5-6, and 12-13 2021. OJMCHE’s exhibition will be open from February 5-April 30, 2021. More information can be found on the PDX Winter Lights Festival website.
