Oregon Rises Above Hate 2022

Join together to celebrate Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month and the AANHPI (Asian, Asian American, Native Hawaiian, Pacific Islander) community, its resilience, and commit to combat the continued rise anti-Asian hate.

Schedule For The Day

  • 10 AM – 11 AM
    Community Performances by Portland Taiko, Obukan Judo, and others
  • 11 AM – 12 PM
    Speaking by community leaders and elected officials, including Oregon Governor Kate Brown, Philanthropist Anne Naito-Campbell, Multnomah County Commissioner Lori Stegmann, Multnomah County Commissioner Susheela Jayapal, Metro Councilor Duncan Hwang, and Kolini Fusitua of the Pacific Islander Asian Family Center.
  • 12 PM – 5 PM
    Cultural heritage institutions will be open for free to encourage exploration of AANHPI culture & history, including the Japanese American Museum of Oregon, Lan Su Chinese Garden, Oregon Historical Society, Oregon Jewish Museum and Center for Holocaust Education, Portland Chinatown Museum, and others.
    Festival Streets on Flanders and Davis Street will have food carts and tables from organizations.
    Lan Su Chinese Garden will feature performances by Ka Lei Hai’a O Ka Lokelani, Takohachi Taiko, and Vancouver Jasmine Dance Troupe.
  • 6 PM – 9 PM
    Vigil and memorial at Lan Su Chinese Garden to honor those that came before us and those that we have lost during the pandemic, featuring Fear No Music, Chinese calligraphy demonstration, and floating lantern release at dusk.
